On the American Idol top 5 results show, Ryan Seacrest revealed that over forty-five million votes were cast for the finalists. For the first musical performance, the top 5 finalists performed a compilation of various Neil Diamond songs.
After the group performance, Ryan Seacrest visited with former American Idol finalists Constantine Maroulis and Gina Glocksen in the studio audience. Constantine and Gina plugged their Fox Reality show “American Idol Extra,” which led Seacrest to ask “Are they grooming you to take my job?”
After a review of the American Idol top 5 performance show, Ryan Seacrest addressed some of the gossip about Paula Abdul’s behavior from last night. Seacrest said, “Just for the record, the rumors, they are not true. She’s part of our family, and we love her, so a round of applause for Paula. And I think Simon still wants to hook up with her.”
After his words of encouragement for Paula Abdul, Ryan Seacrest called Jason Castro to center stage and revealed that he was safe. Next, Seacrest called David Archuleta to center stage and revealed that he was also safe.
After Randy Jackson showed off an American Idol Coca-Cola cup, Ryan Seacrest called David Cook to center stage and revealed that he was safe. With all three guys safe, it meant that both girls were in the bottom two. Seacrest called Syesha Mercado and Brooke White to center stage, but he asked them to rest on the couch for a little bit.
In the first guest musical performance, Natasha Bedingfield sang “Pocket Full Of Sunshine.” After her performance, Natasha went over and gave David Archuleta a kiss on the cheek. In a call-in segment, a viewer asked why it was always Paula Abdul that gave the contestants a break. Paula said, “Well, somebody has to.” Then, Paula went on to explain how difficult it was to do what the contestants did.
For the Ford music video, the American Idol finalists performed “Catch The Wind.” For the second guest musical performance, Neil Diamond sang “Amazing Grace.” After Neil Diamond’s performance, Ryan Seacrest called Syesha Mercado and Brooke White back to center stage. Seacrest said, “American Has decided that the contestant leaving us tonight is Brooke.” Brooke broke down in tears and sobbed, before giving an emotional farewell performance of “I Am…I Said.”
