One off, 10 to go. American Idol named David Hernandez first official “casualty” of the season 7 of the most popular televised singing competition of all times.
Former male stripper Hernandez got sacked thanks to an awful rendition of “I Saw Her Standing There”. David’s performance was described “corny verging on desperate.” by Simon Cowell.
“Honestly, things happen for a reason.” David told host Ryan Seacrest upon learning the elimination result. “You’ll see me at the top. This isn’t it for me.” He added.
Kristy Lee Cook (“Eight Days a Week.”) and Syesha Mercado (“Got to Get You Into My Life.”) also finished in the bottom three.
Early favorite David Archuleta managed to escape the axe despite forgetting the lyrics in his rendition of “We Can Work It Out.”
We said over and over again that early favorites aren’t a safe bet and this week’s events proved us right once again. Our advice is to avoid betting on Archuleta.
Katharine McPhee returned to American Idol as guest to sing George Harrison’s “Something.” Sanjaya Malakar returned as well but, thank God, didn’t sing.
Next Tuesday’s competition round will feature a second week of Beatles songs from John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
